OK, now this is just TOO cool. You can now access Google information from any cell phone enabled with text messaging (which is nearly all of them). The details are available at
Google SMS, but as AV Club readers (all four of you), I'll give you the skinny on how to do it.
- Send a text message to 46645 (GOOGL).
- For Local searches (like looking up a restaurant number), enter the search term, a period, then the location (either city/state or zip). Example (Pizza Hut.Anderson SC)
- For phone number lookup, enter name and location (ex. Ken Wilson Anderson SC or Ken Wilson 29625)
- For prices, enter "F" then the item (ex. F ipod 20Gb)
- For definitions, enter "D" then the word.
- For information snippets, enter "G" then the search term
- For other help, enter "help"
:: PSA. While Google does not make money off of this new service, your cell phone company does by charging you for text messaging. Make sure you are aware of any charges for text messaging before attempting to use this service.
