Looking for a little lunchtime diversion? If you are of the NES variety (as I was as a kid), you will really appreciate the decidedly lo-fi minibosses. A Nintendo cover band, these guys cover the likes of castlevania and ninja gaiden themes, among others. Next, ride over to NPR and listen to the radio interview with the Phoenix, AZ band.

Now if the lo-fi has piqued your interest, you may also enjoy tree wave, who create music via their C64 computer. Their CD even includes their self-written software so you can load up your own C64... if you have a C64. If not, Propellerheads has a collection of C64 REX files for the download if you have Reason.

Is Google just for random, shotgun blast search anymore? I don't think so. If you feel like Google search is just a random shotgun blast in the dark, take control, my friend. Search smarter, not harder. And here's your required reading for the day: Google Help Central lists many common search-enhancers that will make your Google time much more useful. This curtsey of Google Blog.

(on a sidenote, I just found something of a great irony. I ran Blogger's spell check on this post, and it told me that "blog" was not a word, and suggested I use "bloc." Makes you think, doesn't it?)

Now THAT's a demo reel. Warning, 60 Mb download... but so worth it. In other news, continue to visit the Benz mix tape site, and you'll be rewarded with a nice mix tape of some great tracks. Have a good Monday.

This has been an exciting day for those who love useful little programs. First on the list is Remove Messenger, which is a beautiful little uninstaller that FINALLY gets rid of that curs'd Messenger icon. Second on today's list is Google Desktop. Now you can have full Google search capability over your personal computer. And it's fast. The best thing is you just browse to Google to search for your own files. Normally, where www.google.com gives you "web," or "groups," or "images." Now, there's an option for "desktop." Click. Then search and your personal files are displayed. Beautiful. Last on today's list is the gmail notifer, which is a little utility that monitors activity on your gmail account from the taskbar. Also, it offers one click e-mail login... speeding up those daily mail checks.

So, that's today's run down. Let me know what you guys think of these little add-ons.

Fellowship Church is featuring it's "Just Lust" series on the web this week from late summer of 2003. The message opener has long since been one of my favorites from them, especially the audio, which was created in house using Adobe Audition, and some creative studio wizardry. Take a look.

OK, now this is just TOO cool. You can now access Google information from any cell phone enabled with text messaging (which is nearly all of them). The details are available at Google SMS, but as AV Club readers (all four of you), I'll give you the skinny on how to do it.

- Send a text message to 46645 (GOOGL).
- For Local searches (like looking up a restaurant number), enter the search term, a period, then the location (either city/state or zip). Example (Pizza Hut.Anderson SC)
- For phone number lookup, enter name and location (ex. Ken Wilson Anderson SC or Ken Wilson 29625)
- For prices, enter "F" then the item (ex. F ipod 20Gb)
- For definitions, enter "D" then the word.
- For information snippets, enter "G" then the search term
- For other help, enter "help"

:: PSA. While Google does not make money off of this new service, your cell phone company does by charging you for text messaging. Make sure you are aware of any charges for text messaging before attempting to use this service.

Things are getting hot on the web browser front, as told by Digit Online news. Looks like Microsoft is starting to see some competition from the awesome and dominating Firefox.

OK, so here's the coolest, newest utility I've come across. First, get Google's Picasa picture organizing software. It's awesome, and serves as Mac's iPhoto, but for the PC. NOW, get Hello. It's an extension that allows you to easily send photos to your blog. The two photos posted yesterday are from Hello. It's quick, easy, and free. They even provide a place to host your photos. It pulls photos from Picasa or straight from Windows Explorer, resizes, and posts to your blog. No fancy coding or HTML, just say "go." Has anyone else tried this?

Everyone's favorite, weworkforthem, is sporting a new site. Be sure to check out the Aug. 19th post. yeah, they're making that image suitable for use as wallpaper. And I'm not talking about desktop wallpaper, I'm referring to house wallpaper. I may ask Meg if we can redo the baby's room. He's already been in there a week and I'm sure he's getting bored with it.

:: Revision, look at weworkforthem's "Maxalot Paper" link. They've changed their site ::
