Hiedy ho, good neighbor. Firefox just released a new version... 0.9.1. If you browse the web (which I assume you are as you read this), and are on a PC, go download and use Firefox today. I mean it. Far superior to Internet Explorer... and it's a smaller download size now. You owe it to yourself. and it's free.

OK, so FedEx deliever a goodie for me yesterday. Upon return from a laborious (ha) lamaze class, I found WWFT's Enter the Dragon nestled upon my doorstep. Discreet brown envelope, nary a piece of content other than the DVD... very elusive packaging... leaves you guessing as to its contents.

So, then I inserted into my DVD player and proceeded to have my mind blown. It's incredible (most of it). 40+ minutes, I think, of motion graphics and animation featuring WWFT's typeface collection. Several pieces I've seen before on the web, but in full-resolution glory, worthy of months of study. Incredible. buy it.

Any if any of you would like to attend a viewing, comment here and we'll set it up. I'd love to discuss its merits with you and yours.

I'm pretty sure the boys from weworkforthem have lost it. Their site has been morphed into something a bit stranger that one would expect. It probably has something to do with the Enter the Dragon DVD release a few weeks ago. My copy should arrive today, so we'll have a lookie and let you know what's going on.

Tronic just updated their site with a slew of new media. My favorite (though I've only watched through a few of them) is for the Fine Living network. Beautiful coloration, and the "not so flashy but hey we're fitting and cool" text animations.

Welcome to the newly redesigned AV Club. Mr. Shua has graciously created a beautiful, summery hub for me to post about all things techno. This forum slants hard toward the creativew media / motion graphics / After Effects side of life. I hope you enjoy. Please comment; that way I'll know you're there.

Here's a brilliant tutorial on how to simulate a "film weave," or the breakdown of film's sprockets as damage occurs. It's also a nice exercise in setting up a good expression with slider controls. Gate Weave Creation

The basis expression is:

wa=5;
wf=7;
[wiggle(wa,wf)[0],position[1]]

(applied to Position). wa is the weave amplitude, wf is the weave frequency. You could also replace 5 and 7 with expression sliders to make the expression more controllable.

Maybe you shouldn't be doing this at work, but I would invite you to play the Punk'd Pinata Donkey game. Round two features a ninja donkey.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but you should visit the Creative Cow frequently. I read the After Effects Forum at least twice a day for new developments. Do me a favor, though, don't post a question like "so, uh, how do you, like, get a film look in after effects" Just search the archives first. There is a wealth of information, and you can usually get it faster that if you were to post.

just a thought.

My newest favorite motion designer is Kyle Cooper of Imaginary Forces.

http://www.imaginaryforces.com/if.html

They are responsible for designing the movie intro credits to Se7en,
Donnie Brasco, and Spiderman (and the upcoming Spiderman 2).
Unbelievable. You can visit their site and watch through some of their
extensive work. Beautiful stuff.

Some thoughts for those of us involved in the creative media industry:

3D ARK : Archives

AVed at 6/04/2004 12:01:00 PM | LINK |

The new RES magazine (www.res.com) released this week. Full of the latest in motion graphics, short film, & music videos, this is one mag you should be getting. 6 times a year, its pages grace my mailbox... Oh, did I mention that it includes a DVD?

That alone is worth the price of admission. Wanna know where Ken gets all the ideas?

Seriously, if you're working in a creative field, it is EXTREMELY important to find a way to feed that creativity. Independent creative thought is a large part of it, but it is equally important to feed yourself. Also, it provides a sense of "creative community" that tells you "you're not crazy... There's more of us out there." I login in to several creative sources DAILY to feed the IDEA Factory. Where do I go?

www.creativecow.com
(After Effects & Trapcode)
www.computerlove.net
www.k10k.net

Those are my TOP 3.

And then there's my personally connected "creative cohorts" at http://epiphanylounge.blogspot.com AND http://artwrk.blogspot.com

Personal creative community... Another conversation for another time.

Where do you find creative community?
